This Unit focused on action games, my personal favorite games to play. It taught the designer that action games provide physical challenge for the avatar; they often include enemies, traps, and physical obstacles; players overcome challenges by using tactics like attacking, defending, protecting, and avoiding. They also taught me that action games use items like health and weapon pick-ups to help the player beat the challenge. And, the balance of danger zones and safe zones are very important to action game design. This was my personal favorite to analyze, because I love anything with action in it. Without a little bit of action in a game, it will most likely be categorized in my opinion as boring.
